I can see the failure from 1000 miles away

Been out East with my wife for a great long weekend, which is why I haven't said much about recent budget shenanigans. But I did want to point to a bit of news that slipped out while the Fix-con and the budget was being debated. And that was the August Wisconsin jobs report.

The result?

Total jobs DOWN 8,800
Private sector jobs DOWN 5,200
Unemployment rate UP 3.4%

Maybe some of that is seasonal, since August is a bit flunky. But job growth of well below 1% in last 12 months is well behind the US rate, so no wonder Walker and WISGOP are desperate to deflect from the present-day suckiness of this state's economy.

Back to vacationing, but feel free to let others know

  1. You don't need to read further than the title to know that there's no good news.

"Wisconsin Monthly Employment & Unemployment Rates Released" doesn't highlight anything therefore there's nothing good to highlight.

(Not that there's anything wrong with highlighting the best part of each report, that's something the DWD has always done and hey, it has to sell Wisconsin as a place of opportunity regardless of who's living in the Governor's mansion).

    1. Yep, the lack of a headline is an absolute tell that the jobs figures will suck.

And hilarious that they try to portray 19,000 added jobs in 12 months as a good thing. Minnesota has gained well over twice as much over the same time.

  2. But guys, there's literally an ad on this very web page that shows up to the right of this article that says 13,000 new jobs are coming to WI paid for by the group: Friends of Scott Walker showing the Gov standing at a Foxconn glass podium, so there's nothing to worry about right! So why aren't they interested in throwing out another big offer for the Amazon HQ2? 50,000+ jobs is more than 13,000 but I'm guessing conservatives and tech companies just don't get along too well. I have to say it would be entertaining to have Jeff B as the Gov though! Why stop at one big company...more chop shop political moves and hack jobs thrown together could definitely free up many more billions to throw out to companies across the board in the new wis-CON-sin Corp! Maybe the state could just be turned into a mega corporation like the state run Chinese type?! At least profits wouldn't be needed at that point!

    1. Is that ad on your feed? That's hilarious. I know Google pops up stuff based on sites you visit, so funny that it shows up for you.

Of course, I get a very small cut from the Walker campaign (via Google) each time someone clicks on one of those ads. Not that I would encourage such shenanigans, of course :P.

  3. Yeah, it shows up at the top, and shows under linked at the bottom. The ad is always the same...it is there every time I view your blog. Here is the link it wants you to go to: https://www.scottwalker.com/getinvolved/13000jobs/ It wants your viewers to get involved in the "states turnaround!" Should we all sign up?!

    1. I think I'll pass, although funny how this is the "state's turnaround." So they're admitting the last 6 1/2 years are a failure? Welcome to the party, pal!
