So it won't be Three-Term Tony

Oh, it's a message getting forwarded on BlueSky from our Guv? Well let's see what he's got to say!

A love letter from me to Kathy and my family—and to you, Wisconsin. youtu.be/b0_45uWyYA8

Bummer. Tony would have won easily. But he's had a good run in office and this state is a whole lot better off than where it was under the Former Guy. He's in his 70s and doesn't owe us anything if he doesn't want it.

Now it'll take a little more work. But losing's not an option, because this state can't afford even 4 years of the train wreck that would result from having some WisGOP fool at the Governor's mansion (I mean, look at what kind of garbage goes on in red states. Forget it). And I think most understand that. Plus, I'd much rather have the WisDem's bench than whatever is coming from WisGOP at this point.

Especially if it's this washed-up fuckface.

This is going to be an exhausting year, isn’t it

Yeah, that guy ain't running. Partly because he isn't giving up the 6-figure Koched-up grift that he has going on, and partly because it would be a Dem landslide because every Dem voter would want to get one last shot at Scotty. And for Republicans, Walker is a has-been loser who hasn't won anything in the decade-plus that Donald Trump has been a thing in politics, with some epic failures that have aged terribly. There would be no enthusiasm whatsoever.

Even without Walker being the GOP's losing canddiate, it's still set up for a Dem win up top and at the Legislative level. We just have to now figure out who the standard bearer will be at the top of that ticket. We got a year to have it play out, and I'm interested in seeing how it develops.

  1. Bowing out after two terms with honor and grace is just the latest thing that makes me admire Tony Evers. He’s the one politician who, when he says “I want to spend more time with my family,” I actually believe. He’s devoted his entire life to Wisconsin and he’s 73 years old. Let the man retire, for Pete’s sake.

Besides, I don’t share your belief, Jake, that he would have won easily, if at all. The voters of this state are way too divided and fickle. Remember, we were actually stupid enough to re-elect Trump in November. Now, who will be the Democratic nominee? In my view, if it’s anybody other than Josh Kaul (who currently hasn’t declared), we’re screwed. A woman, a Black man, or anyone of any gender or race from Madison or Milwaukee will just not win. You may think because Trump is so unpopular they have a shot, but no. Wisconsin Republican voters still LOVE their Trump, and independents are, as I previously mentioned, stupid.

So…thank you for everything, Tony. Please convince your friend Josh to run.

    1. Fun fact, Kamala Harris actually did better in Wisconsin in 2024 than she did nationwide (lost by 0.9% vs 1.5% nationwide). And the only reason Trump won was because of low-info bros that either won't vote or have realized they messed up and have turned against Trump/GOP. Independents have especially turned against the GOP (as they usually have in the post-Citizen Untied era against the parties in power).

I trust the Supreme Court election results to be more reflective of where we might be in 2026. Both in terms of the electorate (more Dem-leaning), and in preferences of the voters. I also think a female Dem candidate would win (heck, a lesbian from Madison has been elected statewide 3 times to US Senator), but a Black candidate from Milwaukee might not be a risk we want to take on, no matter how good David Crowley has been at the job. Crowley needs to dig MKE Co out of its budgetary hole first before , and that is more likely to happen if Dems win it all next year.

Let's see who gets in and who doesn't, and then let it play out over the next year. My main thought is that losing is not an option, unless you want us to become a craphole like (last-in-the-nation for job growth) Iowa.

    2. Yes, the happy, wondrous mystery that is Tammy Baldwin will never cease to amaze me. I want to believe in Sara Rodriguez, I really do. I would love to have a (Democratic) woman governor. My cynicism about the electorate remains, at least for now. We shall see how it plays out.
