.@repvos says he wants to try to prevent the state from losing $50 million a month in food assistance by overriding legislation @GovEvers vetoed in February.

It would be tough to get Democrats on board with that, making it nearly impossible to get the needed 2/3 majority.
And how it ended, with Governor Evers actually getting something done, and allowing thousands of Wisconsinites to keep their food assistance. So, in short: Vos charted a path that is unlikely to get funding for food assistance for poor people even though Democrats and Republicans alike claim to want to achieve that.

It also didn't hurt that the Biden Administration is a lot more willing to work with Evers and make sure people's lives aren't disrupted vs what the Previous Guy might have done. Isn't it nice to have people in power that actually want to get things done for constituents instead of using their time to scheme ways to funnel more power and money to themselves? It's almost like there's a real difference between Democrats and Republicans on the way they govern. Maybe someone should consider that when they vote.I’m proud we were able to work with our federal partners and come to an agreement that ensures we can continue providing assistance to Wisconsinites across our state as we keep working to fight this virus.

When I first heard that Evers had preserved the food assistance, I was horrified, assuming he’d sold his soul to Mephistopheles (aka Vos). YES! He bypassed the Repubs completely and went straight to Biden. I can’t put into words how happy I am to have a governor like Tony Evers and a president like Joe Biden. Sort of makes being surrounded by conservative assholes tolerable.
ReplyDeleteYep, Evers seems to be learning that you can't work with today's version of WisGOP, who have zero interest in everyday outcomes of Wisconsinites.
DeleteBiden Admin also shot down Walker's work requirements last week, which were designed to keep Wisconsinites from receiving Medicaid. Every day, getting rid of that Koched-up jag in favor of Evers continues to keep this state (and many of its residents) from falling into the gutter.
Great news! Now if Governor Evers can work a deal to reel in that ~$1.6 billion in Medicaid assistance Wisconsin will have another huge win against the Republican thugs.
ReplyDeleteSo, if Vos and the Fascist Obstructionists (see: Party of "No!") are gonna obstruct (they sure as hell haven't been doing anything else for Wisconsinites!), pivot and make'em irrelevant!
