A different March Madness for hoops in 2020

It started with a question from Wisconsin Congressman Glenn Grothman (!), who was asking Dr. Anthony Fauci on Capitol Hill about whether coronavirus should affect public events. Grothman seemed to be trying to blow off Fauci, and go along with Trumpian line of "not a big deal", and asked why NBA games were still having people in attendance.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) spread means the NBA should not have anyone in the audience for games being played, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Fauci states that “[w]e would recommend that there not be large crowds. If that means not having any people in the audience as the NBA plays, so be it.”
And in the hours between that hearing and tonight, things have gotten crazy.

If you were planning to go to Indy to see the REGULAR SEASON CHAMPION Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten tourney, don't bother.

And you won't need to hit the road to see them in the Big Dance either.

Then later tonight, we found out that there might not be a lot of hoops left to watch in this month.

I guess that's one way to have Giannis' knee heal up. Hope they get any afflicted players and their teammates quarantined, and then see if we can pick up the season from there - fans or no fans.

March usually means madness. But not like this. And I dont think our President helped things with...whatever he spoke about tonight.

  1. I'm more than a bit diffident about March Madness. What follows is not a criticism of anyone. It is, however, food for thought.
Out on the plains, in the southwest deserts, in the reservations, the hogans and the pueblos of the First Americans, and in the hamlets of the Mennonites and Amish, and in those innumerable other communities of little-noticed, little-heeded also-Americans, March Madness is an alien concept, a baffling path-without-a-heart as empty and hollow as the mortal mind can conceive.
Consider that these also-Americans look upon March Madness and wonder: is it symptomatic of a people who have forgotten who they are, forgotten their ancestors, forgotten their neighbors, a people who have disconnected themselves from the cycles of nature, as a grand evasion of those who fear, greatly, the need to look inward?
A recent Journal-Sentinel headline, "How sports leagues acted swiftly to protect health" lavishes praise on sports entities for canceling large public gatherings, and gushes with blatant and unprofessional editorializing that includes this laughable conceit: "They deployed the ultimate quarantine in a desperate bid (How heroic!) to help themselves and the nation flatten the curve of illness."
Yes, well, sure, let's all notice how heroic a deed that was...
I had a good laugh, too, at the un-ironic statement that followed: "It's all going to cost untold millions, if not billions, of dollars."
Ah, THAT will get the reader's attention. Because the COST to the leagues IS important. Be impressed now...
Meanwhile, in the rest of America...

    1. I simply can't imagine, and I'm so glad I can't, to be a small, miserable 'person' like yourself: Unable to feel joy or enthusiasm or excitement for anything, and only wishing (through crushing control), to spread your self-misery to others. To immediately crush any sense of fun or joy in life, and turn everything flat, grey, and socialist. I pity you, I detest you, and I will fight you and creatures like you to my last breath.

    2. I dont care who you are, that is solid satire from our West Bend Windbag.

This troll and the rest of the entire Wisconsin GOP has no ideology beyond grabbing money and power while hurting others. Your whole reason for living is to "own the libs" and "divide and conquer", settling for mediocrity vs improving our state and country.

ALL WISGOPS IN CONGRESS JUST VOTED AGAINST REQUIEING SICK LEAVE TO DEAL WITH CORONAVIRUS. Because you value donors and the ability of businesses to screw over people vs stabilizing the economy.

I can't stop laughing at your complete lack of self-awareness.
