Vos:

"I hope we can work together to put some broad parameters on the books if it's necessary. But I also feel like we have a lot of those tools already in place."
It's possible, Vos said, that local governments will ultimately enact different rules across the state
Fitzgerald gives positive review of his talk with Evers but doesn’t say what either side wants. https://t.co/0fC3WyULTm

Much like what we're seeing from the Republicans in DC, apparently "the plan is that there is no plan."
As of this afternoon, the Evers Administration has put together some interim guidance, which could be OK'd and put into place today, so local communities could at least have some kind of guidelines.
"... the proposed rule may establish a phased approach to reopening Wisconsin’s economy and society, with each phase being incrementally less restrictive on businesses and individuals while protecting the public from COVID-19."

So now that the Evers Administration have continued at least do their job in trying to combat COVID-19, I'm sure the WisGOPs will run with it, base their plans on what Evers has laid out, and get it in place to give the desired "certainty" they always say businesses need.
“Do we need statewide rules for the run-of-the-mill opening of restaurants or small retailers? I don’t think so. It’s been shown what’s been deemed essential businesses before, the non-essential businesses can be doing the same things that they were and work in a safe manner.”

And Ballweg feels she's worthy of a promotion to the State Senate? Really?
Apparently this means the WisGOP strategy is to lay back and whine, heaping the blame on Evers for the bad things that follow. And why not? Doing nothing beyond cronyism and corruption while constantly complaining about anything a Democrat does is all Republicans have done since 2008. And that cynicism has won Republicans quite a few elections, and has allowed them to stay in power long after the general public has disapproved of their BS.
Sorry WisGOPs. You filed the lawsuit to end the Safer at Home provisions. You are now blocking the implementation of new rules, and you are the ones who haven't passed one bill in the last 4 weeks to deal with COVID-19. And yet the do-nothing WisGOPs continue to receive their full taxpayer-funded salary and benefits to do....WHAT?
Meanwhile, the progress that this state had made in the recent weeks in bending the curve of new cases downward now will likely spread to areas that haven't been hit as hard up to this point. And I can't feel too broken up about it, given the cavalier attitude WisGOP politicians and voters seem to have about this dangerous virus. Because apparently these guys need to have bad things happen to them before they will change course, and start to care about crushing this historic disease.
So I guess it has to get worse for a lot of Wisconsinites before things can get better. I'm just angry that these dopes will likely delay our full return to normal even longer because of their laziness, pettiness and arrogance.
Both Fitzgerald and Voss praised Governor Evers for calling on State Agencies to cut spending 5% until the end of the fiscal year. Agencies have been under a hiring freeze since March. The UW System is furloughing staff. What, specifically, is the legislature doing to cut their own costs? They could cut expenses in their offices by 5-10%, including spending on outside lawyers. They should suspend per diem payments and mileage payments. https://www.ironmountaindailynews.com/news/2020/04/republicans-praise-evers-5-state-spending-cut-and-call-for-more/
ReplyDeleteSo, Evers needs the Legislative Rules Committee approval for his plan crafted by WI State Health officials with substantial input from the CDC. I have little confidence that Committee will approve anything submitted by Governor Evers, although, Committee Chair, Rep Ballweg, is eminently qualified since she is a former first grade teacher. :- )
ReplyDeleteNot likely, given that nASS thinks that the Wisconsin DHS has no right to oversee anything. So we're stuck with no state standards while WisGOP fiddles and whines.
DeleteRemember, Vos and Fitz thought these dopes were worthy of being Chair of this Committee. They also just gave in to anti-vaxxers on turning down rules on a chicken pox vaccine for school children.
