One easy way for Dems to get GOPs to stop the Swampiness - a SHUTDOWN

You may not have noticed as Summer wound down, but as Congress (finally) gets back into session next week, we need to get a final budget numbers figured out in the next 3 weeks. But don't worry, House Dems are going to take care of it.
The House will vote on a continuing resolution the week of Sept. 16, according to a letter Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer released Thursday.

The stopgap spending bill, needed to keep the government funded when the new fiscal year begins Oct. 1, will likely last until late November, according to a House Democratic aide. That could mean an end date of Nov. 21 — the last day the House is scheduled to be in session before leaving for Thanksgiving break.

The House has approved 10 of the 12 annual spending bills, but the Senate Appropriations Committee has yet to mark up any of its bills — opting to wait until after lawmakers and the White House reached a universal agreement on spending levels for fiscal 2020.....

The Senate Appropriations Committee is hoping to mark up all 12 of its spending bills during the three-week September legislative session. But there won’t be enough time for those measure to be reconciled with the House bills and signed into law — meaning that Congress would need to pass and President Donald Trump would need to sign a continuing resolution to avoid a partial government shutdown
Hold on here. Moscow Mitch won't take up bills on guns or election security in the Senate, and didn't use a minute in all of August to get these appropriations bills passed before the September 30 deadline. And yet, old man Hoyer wants House Democrats to bail these guys out and keep government open for the next 2 months without putting any demands on the GOP Senate whatsoever?

Now combine it with this Swampy story from last night.

The inquiry is part of a broader, previously unreported probe into U.S. military expenditures at and around the Trump property in Scotland. According to a letter the panel sent to the Pentagon in June, the military has spent $11 million on fuel at the Prestwick Airport — the closest airport to Trump Turnberry — since October 2017, fuel that would be cheaper if purchased at a U.S. military base. The letter also cites a Guardian report that the airport provided cut-rate rooms and free rounds of golf at Turnberry for U.S. military members.

Taken together, the incidents raise the possibility that the military has helped keep Trump’s Turnberry resort afloat — the property lost $4.5 million in 2017, but revenue went up $3 million in 2018.

“The Defense Department has not produced a single document in this investigation,” said a senior Democratic aide on the oversight panel. “The committee will be forced to consider alternative steps if the Pentagon does not begin complying voluntarily in the coming days.”
Hey, I think I know an alternative step House Dems can take. CUT OFF THE PENTAGON'S BUDGET UNTIL THEY SEND OVER THE INFO ABOUT THIS. And cut the Defense Department's budget by the $11 million they have wasted to refuel at Trump's Scotland resort.

Seriously, can anyone explain to me what House Dems gain from allowing government to keep operating "business as usual" while the lawless GOP continue to misuse govt resources and allow our elections to be corrupted? The only way these thugs will come close to staying in line is if the price of GOP stonewalling and corruption becomes more than the benefits of doing it - and a massive drop in the stock market and Trump's approval sinking into the low 30s as a result of a government shutdown over their (in)actions sure seems to qualify.

There is no electoral reward to being the responsible party in 2019. And no matter how 70-somethings like Hoyer, Pelosi, and Clyburn want to "keep order" in DC and America, that's the wrong strategy as we near 2020, and GOP vandalism against all types of governmental oversight and fairness gets worse by the day.

And if the old folks in control don't get it, then it's time for new Dem leaders who do understand the game cynical GOPs are playing, and crush them with it. If they keep stonewalling, then you shut everything down, with no CRs getting through. This will force the media to keep talking about this wasteful spending and its related Swampiness, and that's something Trump and the rest of the GOP do NOT want the public to think about.

Apparently I am not the only guy thinking this. And this guy knows a lot more about Trumpian crookedness than almost anyone in America.
